Eating Popcorn With Friends.

Yesterday was one of those days. Like, Wow! Hit you over the head what a beautiful day with perfect sun in the sky, hardly a breeze, not a bug bite, hang with your friends, work on your yard and eat outside for dinnertime.

Cecilia was not sleepy at bedtime... in fact she was cuddly and raring for fun with her family. So we got her very most snuggle puppy sweatshirt on her and brought her downstairs again to visit with the grown-ups after bedtime. So Rafi, Cecilia, Micah, Emily Guirl and myself all hopped on the couches in the living room and ate the very biggest bowls of popcorn, done hippy-style with nutritional yeast. Before I could even think of putting the mommy-common-sense about a one-year old eating popcorn, she punched both her strong, chubby hands, as she leaned against her Mama and her Papa and chowed down on popcorn just like the rest of us. Handful after handful until we reached the bottom of the bowl.

That's why we're really lucky to have teeth and opposable thumbs and the knowledge of making fire, and of gardening, because eating popcorn is so simple for us to do.

Painting Again & Bodywork

In preparation for the Rites of Spring Art Show at The Eastport Arts Center I have (shock!) started a new piece! The theme is Rebirth and each piece has to be a minimum of 18x24". I've been working very, very small these days so the size threw me off. I had a few bad (icky bad) first attempts on this piece. I'm downsizing my "studio" space right now into my Theo's oak writing desk, which has limited space, so working large felt difficult for me. My solution: fold a large piece of paper into 3 panels and work on one at a time, creating a sort 3 piece story with black ink. Interesting thus far, I actually like/love/am proud of what I'm creating... 1 nap at a time!

I'm on a quest to find relief for the pain in my body... an 11 year old unresolved ankle injury, chronic back pain for 10 years, and with the 50 extra pound of pregnancy came aching hips and knees, a year of nursing and lifting has created sore neck/shoulders/upper-back; and of course the active asthma of the last 2 years. So I am on a quest to heal my body. I am seeing McGinley Jones of Lubec for weekly (or twice weekly) bodywork (primarily myofacial massage, which releases the connective tissue of muscless). I've also seen Peter Knowles of Machias for a Chiropractic Adjustment, painful, but effective. I'm feeling some relief in my structure, and I've been inhaler (and asthma) free for a full week now! WOW! Double Wow! That feels amazing. I think my next step is to somehow reincorporate daily yoga into my life, any tips on how to do that? While caring for a 1 year old?

On Bein' a Mama

This is me as the Mama to a 1 year old:

How have I changed I ask you? (feel free to post in comments) I see bangs, I see a double chin, there seems to be deeper and happier crow's feet on my face, I have a golden ring on my finger, I feel a bit sleep deprived, I have a little fur family of my very own. Family walks, Family Snuggles, Family Play, that's what makes the day go round, to be with my dearest loved ones, my husband and my child.

We sit and create, me with writing to you, Raf strums on the guitar as the small child bounds across the living room, with toy in hand, smile on face and rushed motive in her feet. This moment, these people who have made me a mother fill me with the easiest love to flow from my heart, my cooking and my laugh. It holds my mind completely, yet also allows me to become quiet and still in it's composition. My purpose is clear as I attach myself to our collective needs and desires, it is a purpose which also frees me in my own passion in life. I feel ever thankful for my place at 3 Brighton Avenue.

The Birthday Girl!

So here we are at 1 year old girl. Incredible. Cecilia is truly incredible, I always tell people, wait til you see her! Pigtails, laughter, little games, clapping out of joy, listening on the telephone, kisses too!

Cecilia with her good friend 2 1/2 year old Ellis.

Don't mind me, I'm just eating some delicious "healthy" cake that my mother made for me, covered in whipped cream and berries.

We all had a fantastic time celebrating. The day was begun just before lunchtime with a visit from the midwives and Jean Bookman, we all had lunch together around the table, cake too! What lovely women to share a birthday with, my birthing team, together and reflecting on the events of the previous year, they told me I was incredible in labor, what a complement! I feel so blessed to have had the perfect birth for me. I have been empowered by them.

Birthday Dinner was shared with family, My Auntie Barbs and Brother Nicholas cam up from the south, Parents-in-law Will & Elizabeth, with son Willi, as well as Cecilia's Godparents, Molly & Damon. All 10 of us sat comfortably around our dining room table and ate a fire-roasted leg of lamb, roasted carrots & daikon, bulghur with onions and a tremendous salad. 2 pies for dessert, pumpkin (sugar free for baby) and strawberry-rhubarb custard pie. One of the best things about turning 1 is you only need 1 candle!! (which Cecilia did attempt to blow out) We are a very lucky family to be filled with so much love, admiration and intelligence.

If that wasn't enough we had 1 more birthday celebration on Saturday afternoon, a party for friends and kids! The weather held and we were able to be outside for a bit with the kids using sidewalk chalk and discussion of the gardens. Party snacks included a local cheese plate from Gardenside Dairy and Tide Mill Creamery, Homemade Pickles, Dilly Beans, Carrot Sticks and Broccoli; there were 4-5 pots of coffee made. We had flowers inside and music for hours, the kids were dancing and playing along. Our Family of Friends all together once again! Thanks to all for celebrating with us!
